Beautiful, handmade veneers are a long-term and natural-looking solution for misshapen, chipped, discoloured, and crooked teeth.

Veneers are made from porcelain, a tooth-like material that we will shade-match to your existing teeth. We can also use veneers to fill small gaps between each tooth to achieve a more balanced-looking smile.

Porcelain veneer benefits

  • Made from high-grade, carefully-shaped porcelain.
  • Adhered to your teeth with a strong and durable cement.
  • Look completely natural.
  • No one will notice they are not your real teeth.
  • Can last between 10-15 years.

How treatment improves your teeth

  • Covers surface stains.
  • Improves the overall shade of your front top and bottom teeth.
  • Improves the symmetry of your smile.
  • Protects your teeth against further erosion.

Bespoke treatment for your smile

We use digital workflow and planning systems to create a mock-up of how your smile will look after treatment. Every detail will be considered when designing your veneer, and during your consultation, we will discuss your treatment objectives and what you like and dislike about your teeth.

Your veneers treatment journey

  • Consultation: discussion of treatment objectives.
  • Planning: + 3D digital scans + photographs.
  • Temporary veneers: we will fit you with temporary veneers whilst you wait for your permanent set.
  • Fitting: your veneers are fitted in place permanently with special adhesive cement.

FAQs

How long do teeth veneers last?

Veneers can last anywhere from 5-7 years for composite veneers to 10-15 years or more for porcelain veneers, though some can last 20 years with excellent care. The actual lifespan depends on the type of veneer material, your oral hygiene, and whether you avoid damaging habits like teeth grinding or chewing on hard objects.

What happens to teeth under veneers?

Teeth under veneers remain alive and functional but are susceptible to decay and other issues if oral hygiene is neglected because the veneer only covers the front surface and doesn’t protect against bacteria or acids on other surfaces. A small amount of enamel is removed to fit the veneer, which can temporarily increase sensitivity. However, a properly fitted veneer acts as a protective layer, and regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups are essential to prevent problems like decay and gum irritation.

Is there a downside to veneers?

The main cons of dental veneers are the irreversible removal of tooth enamel, significant cost, the need for eventual replacement, potential tooth sensitivity, and that veneers are not suitable for everyone or for severe dental issues. Veneers are a permanent decision because enamel cannot be regrown, they need to be maintained and eventually replaced, and can be damaged by habits like teeth grinding. You can read more about veneers in one of our article: https://www.knightondental.co.uk/guide-to-dental-veneers-leicester/

Are veneers painful to get?

No, the veneer placement procedure is not painful because local anesthesia is used to numb the teeth, though you may feel a quick scratch when the anesthetic is administered. After the procedure, you might experience mild and temporary tooth sensitivity or jaw and gum pain, particularly if you’ve had several veneers fitted, but this can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and resolves within a few days.

Can you go back to normal teeth after veneers?

No, you cannot go back to your original, “normal” teeth after getting veneers because a small amount of enamel is permanently removed from the natural teeth to make space for them. This enamel loss is irreversible, meaning your teeth will remain more vulnerable, potentially more sensitive, and will always need some form of restoration to maintain their structure and appearance.

Do you have to brush veneers?

Yes, you must brush veneers to maintain oral health and prevent issues like gum disease and decay, but you need to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste to avoid damaging the veneer’s surface. Regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental check-ups are essential for the longevity and integrity of your veneers.
