Looking after your Invisalign clear aligners

Invisalign Leicester

Invisalign is becoming a popular treatment to transform smiles. Once you have started your Invisalign journey it is very important that your aligners are worn for a minimum of 22 hours each day.

Wearing aligners can lead to bacterial build up and if not removed this can impact your oral hygiene and health. With this in mind brushing your teeth along with your aligners throughout the day can prevent build up of bacteria.

Having a good daily routine and habits are key to success. We have suggested a daily routine for best care of your aligners and teeth.

Suggested Daily Routine

When you wake up clean both your teeth and Invisalign aligners.

As you will be sleeping with your aligners a lot of bacteria can build up while you sleep. So cleaning your teeth and aligners should be the priority when waking up and before going to bed.

When removing your aligners rinse them under cold water. This will help to remove away any dried saliva. If you have taken your aligners out keep them safe in your case provided. NEVER rinse your aligners with hot water this can warp the aligners.

Always remove your aligners to eat and drink. Before putting your aligners back in remember to brush and floss/interdental brushes to remove and reduce the risk of trapped food particles being left. Not removing food between the teeth before replacing you’re aligners can lead to cavities and other dental issues later.

To keep you aligners clean we suggest a daily soak. Soak your aligners in either the Invisalign cleaning crystals provided or a denture cleaner. NEVER soak your trays in mouthwash or HOT water. After soaking use a toothbrush to clean away any plaque or food particles from your aligners.

LOOKING AFTER YOUR ALIGNERS

Don’t leave your aligners out in the open. Leaving your aligners exposed to open air can lead to bacteria build up. Try to remember to put your aligners in your case when they are not being worn. If you do leave them out make sure you rinse them before putting them back into your mouth.

Always take your aligners out before you eat and drink. Your aligners are not built for chewing. Leaving them in can cause staining and damage your aligners.

Try and avoid cleaning your aligners with Toothpaste. Toothpaste can damage and discolor your aligners, causing a dull sheen that makes them more visible when wearing them.

NEVER use hot water to clean or rinse your aligners as the hot water can severely damage your aligners. Cold water is best used to protect the special plastic of Invisalign.

When cleaning your aligners avoid colored or scented soaps as they can stain your aligners and leave an unpleasant taste.

Establishing a good daily routine helps ensure your dental and oral hygiene are at a good standard during your Invisalign treatment. Keeping your aligners clean and wearing them for a minimum of 22 hours a day will help the process of each aligner towards your dream smile.
